The Presque Isle Wildcats had a strong showing at Saturday’s Class B regional cross country meet in Belfast and earned the right to compete as a team for one more weekend this fall.

The Presque Isle girls, led by the one-two punch of Madison Jandreau (15th in 21:39.5) and Isabelle Jackson (16th in 21:52.31), took fourth overall out of 11 teams with 146 points and joined regional champion Caribou, Ellsworth, Mount Desert Island, Old Town and Winslow as the teams qualifying for the Class B state meet next Saturday, Oct. 28, in Cumberland.

Ellie Smith came in 33rd, Taylor Ellis 46th and Madelyn Wing 56th as PI’s other scoring runners.

The Presque Isle boys, which placed sixth in 166 points, also moved on to the state meet. They were led by seniors Max Bartley and Jonah Clark. Bartley came in 11th in 18:02.46 and Clark was 14th in 18:04.78.

Trace Cyr was 31st, Owen McQuarrie 43rd and Ian Franz-Hoyt 74th as the squad’s other scorers.

Hermon placed first, followed by MDI, Waterville, Caribou and Belfast. Erskine was the seventh and final team to qualify.

In Class C, the Washburn boys were eighth out of 12 teams and the Washburn girls sixth out of eight. Neither team qualified for the state meet next weekend.

However, three of the school’s runners did reach the top-30 to make it into the state competition as individuals. On the girls’ side, Madison Miller came in 16th out of 77 with a 21:53.68 clocking and Kassandra Farley was 26th in 22:48.56. For the boys, Aidan Churchill snuck into the field by placing 28th in 19:21.03.
