CARIBOU, Maine — The Maine Veterans Cemetery of Caribou will host its annual Veterans Day program on Saturday, Nov. 11, and organizers invite the community to take part.
This year’s program will be dedicated to the memory of John Noble, a longtime benefactor of the cemetery, who passed away just recently.
The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. with an introduction by emcee Dale McGlinn and the posting of the colors by the Loring Job Corps Honor Guard.
Following an invocation by Fr. Jean-Paul Labrie and the national anthem by Jamie Deschesne, speakers will include Harry Hafford, chairman of the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery Corporation; Phil Bosse of Sen. Susan Collins’ office in Caribou; and Kim Rohn of Rep. Bruce Poliquin’s Caribou office.
U.S. Sen. Angus King will offer the keynote address, and will assist Hafford in the laying of the memorial wreath, with a musical selection by Deschesne.
The Legion Riders of American Legion Post 147 in Madawaska will provide a 21-gun salute to honor all veterans, and Larry Hall will play “Taps.”
To close the ceremony, Fr. Labrie will offer the benediction and McGlinn will give closing remarks.
All are welcome for coffee following the program.
