SILVER RIDGE, Maine — Four individuals were sent to the hospital Sunday night after their minivan was struck from behind by a tractor trailer.
According to Sgt. Josh Haines of the Maine State Police Troop F, Chad Day, 32, of Silver Ridge was traveling south on U.S. Route 2 around 7:33 p.m. Sunday, in a 2007 Chrysler minivan when he slowed to make a left-hand turn into a driveway.
William Cook, 55, of East Millinocket was traveling behind Day in a 1993 Peterbuilt tractor trailer, owned by Keith Mitchell and Son’s trucking out of Sherman and did not notice the minivan was making a left-hand turn.
Cook pulled into the oncoming lane to pass Day and collided with the rear of minivan when it made its turn.
Day, along with three passengers — Jamie Day, 34; Ian Roberts, 14; and Logan Day, 8 — all sustained injuries and were transported to Millinocket Regional Hospital by Patten Ambulance. Their condition was not immediately known.
All five people involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts, the report stated.
Cook was not injured and was charged with improper passing.
