Frederick Thomas Plissey

CARIBOU, Maine – Frederick Thomas Plissey, 80, passed away October 30, 2017, at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Caribou. He was born August 22, 1937, in Washburn, Maine, son of Thomas A. and Mary (Learnard) Plissey.

Fred was a graduate of Washburn High School and attended Fort Kent State Teacher’s College. He spent four years in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, and Peru; worked for the Lockheed Company in Marietta, Georgia; farmed with his father in Washburn; was involved in the construction of potato industry facilities and equipment, and conducted plot testing; worked as an oil drilling company electrician in the Gulf Coast, Libya, and Kuwait. He was a former member of the Washburn Rotary Club. An avid sports fan, he was especially interested in Maine Schoolboy Basketball, and was a longtime fan of his hometown Washburn Beavers. He also faithfully followed and cheered his daughter’s athletic activities.
He was predeceased by his parents; by his brother, Edwin Plissey; sister, Patricia (Plissey) Beaulieu; sister, Joanne Plissey; brother, Terrance Plissey; and niece, Holly Dobson. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Plissey of New Canada; sisters, Diane Chandler of Florida, Prudence Dobson of Washburn, and Susan Lunney of Crystal River, Florida. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Plissey and Ellen (Rusti) Plissey, twenty special nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends, and former wife, Carolyn Woodman.
His family thanks the many health care providers, relatives and friends who were kind to Fred during his illness. A celebration of Fred’s life will be held on Friday, November 10, from 1-3 p.m. at 31 Woodman Street, Washburn.
