The annual craft fair, organized by Rec Director Ruth Frazier and her committee, was held Nov. 4 at the Island Falls Municipal Building from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and many people arrived to browse through the many tables full of everything and anything you could think of. Corn chowder and beef stew were available for those who were glad for a chance to rest after checking out all the many crafts and also homemade goodies.
Candy (Newman ) Rupley has returned home after being a patient at Mercy Hospital in Portland, where she underwent surgery to replace a bum knee. After surgery she stayed in Portland for physical therapy before returning home to continue her physical therapy at the Houlton Regional Hospital. Now she is doing very well and she and her husband, Ted, will be leaving soon for warmer climes, which I believe, will be in Arizona.
I have had quite a few more birds at my feeders lately, so have had them filled up so that there is enough for them to get through the cold days. I finally saw a woodpecker and only just two blue jays, where I used to have several.
I caught a glimpse of the little chipmunk a day or two ago — maybe he has departed to a nice, warm snug home for the winter.
And for the past week or so I have had a doe and two little ones arrive in the late afternoon to graze on my back lawn. One afternoon lately they arrived, and after grazing out back, the doe took off toward the front of my house, wandered across my front lawn and over to the apple tree by my driveway where there may be some old apples on the ground. She was soon followed by the little ones, and finally, they all departed for the back lawn and into the woods nearby.
