Girl Scouts visit museum

On Saturday, Nov. 11, the Haystack Historical Society hosted Mapleton Girl Scout Troop 170 at the Haystack Historical Museum.

The girls started the session with a Thanksgiving coloring exercise and a discussion of Veterans Day.  Each girl was given a toy soldier to take home and use to remember the importance of the sacrifices our military personnel make.

Following these activities, the Scouts were given a tour of the museum by Dana Allison, a founding member of the society, and Terry Sandusky, vice president of the society.  Allison talked about the history of the Old Mill School that now is the museum.  Sandusky reviewed the family quilts hanging in the museum and the families in Mapleton represented on the quilts.

Lisa Dean and Amanda Robinson, troop leaders, thanked the historical society for hosting their special session at the museum.

The Girl Scout visit is the last scheduled seasonal event for the museum.  Members of the society will close the museum for the winter in the next week.  The museum will reopen for 2018 next May.

Should there be a need to contact the society, contact Alice Shepherd, society president.

Craft show a success

The Mapleton Daze Committee filled the Mapleton Lions Hall with crafters and vendors over the Nov. 11 and 12 weekend.  Both the main hall and downstairs were filled with crafters and vendors.  Main Street in downtown Mapleton was lined with vehicles both days as the crowds turned out for holiday craft show.

The success of the craft show helps raise funds for the fireworks show planned for the 2018 Mapleton Daze weekend.  The committee and vendors wish to thank everyone who came out to shop at the show.

Mapleton Seniors

The Mapleton-Chapman-Castle Hill Seniors Club’s next meeting will be this coming Monday, Nov. 20, at 11:30 a.m.  It will be a regular potluck luncheon at the Mapleton United Methodist Church.
