SHREWSBURY and HOLDEN, Massachusetts — Avice M. (Whittaker) Farrington Jarvis, 83, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, after an illness.
She was born November 27, 1934, in Easton, the daughter of Jasper V. and Lena M. (Flanagan) Whittaker and had grown up in Presque Isle, before moving to Holden, Mass., living there for over 40 years. After that, she split the last 20 years between Shrewsbury, Mass. and their lake house in Maine.
She leaves her devoted and loving husband, Gary L. Jarvis; a son, Kurt Farrington and his wife, Heather of Worcester, Mass.; a daughter, Maryann Puzo and her husband, David of Dudley, Mass.; and with her husband, Gary, she welcomed two more children, Robert Jarvis and his wife, Connie of Davenport, FL and Cathy Lavway and her husband, Dean of Augusta. They had fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. As an only child, her dear friend, Muriel Pyche of West Boylston, Mass., became like a sister. She was predeceased by her first husband, Philip N. Farrington, Jr.; her son, Stephen P. Farrington; and her grandson, John S. Farrington.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved to be surrounded by her family and her friends, as evidenced by the smile and the sparkle in her beautiful blue eyes that would come when they were around. Avice attended The Journey Community Church in Worcester and enjoyed the fellowship shared there. She will be sadly missed.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the care and compassion provided by the staff of Brookhaven Hospice who touched her life in those final days with a tenderness that we will never forget.
Service was held Monday, Nov. 13th, with burial at Grove Cemetery in Holden, Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brookhaven Hospice, 6 Beech Street, Framingham, MA 01702.
