PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s 2017 Pest Management Conference will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the program at 9.
The all-day session will include presenters on a variety of topics from specific potato pests to disease control and technology.
The morning agenda includes the following topics and presenters: Potato Leafhoppers with UMCE Crops Specialist Jim Dwyer; Managing Volunteer Potatoes, Maine Potato Board Agronomist Jake Dyer; Nematodes, Dr. Alicyn Smart, Plant Pathology Specialist, UMCE; Remote Acquired Weather Data, Glen Koehler, UMCI associate IPM scientist; Update from the Maine Board of Pesticides Control, Megan Patterson, BPC environmental specialist; Spore Trapping, Dr. Khalil Al-Mughrabi, plant pathologist, New Brunswick Department of Agriculture.
Afternoon sessions include Field Identification of Common Potato Maladies, Dwyer; Drone Applications for Agriculture, Wayne Kilcollins, Wind Power Technology Instructor, Northern Maine Community College; Remote Sensing Yield Applications and Future Directions, Dr. Lakesh Sharma, soil and crops specialist, UMaine Cooperative Extension; Integrated Pest Management for the Colorado Potato Beetle Dr. Andrei Alyokhin, Entomologist, UMaine; Insect Control, Aaron Buzza, assistant scientist at the Aroostook Research Farm; Disease Control, Dr. Jay Hao, Plant Pathologist, UMaine; and Weed Control, Dr. John Jemison, UMCE soil and water specialist.
Additionally, UMaine graduate student Ahmed Zaeen will discuss a new potato pest control smartphone app.
