YORK, Anna W., 84, PRESQUE ISLE, January 2, 2011. A committal service will take place in the spring at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.
PRESQUE ISLE – Anna W. York, 84, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2011, at a Presque Isle healthcare facility. She was born August 8, 1926, in Unterlohma, Chezoslovakia, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Mayer) Weinman.
When Anna and her husband, Walter were raising their children, they had many happy moments camping, fishing, and swimming up in the Northern Maine Woods. She had a love for coffee and would never pass up a cup if offered. Anna worked for many years at the Presque Isle Nursing Home as a CNA. She loved the people she cared for and always looked forward to seeing them. Above all, she loved her family and enjoyed all the special times with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons: Walter York Jr. and his wife, Theresa of Fort Fairfield, and Joseph York and his wife, Rosemary of Presque Isle; three daughters: Judy Wasson of Stratham, NH, Shirley Maynard and her husband, Brian of Washburn, and Susan York of Presque Isle; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind three sisters: Marianne Dinsenbacher, Margaret Hackspiel, and Magdelina Grode all of Germany.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Walter York Sr., on July 7, 1996, as well as four siblings and a granddaughter.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2011, at the Duncan Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Grove-Markwood officiating. Friends called from 1 p.m. until time of service. A reception was offered after the service in the gathering area of the funeral home.
