Labbe appointed as city clerk

PRESQUE ISLE — City councilors discussed a variety of topics at Monday night’s meeting, including the selection of a new city clerk.
Discussion began with councilors voting to close Main Street from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, for Biathlon World Cup festivities.
“Main Street will be closed from 5 to 8 p.m. between Academy and State streets for the purpose of having a gathering down there in conjunction with the World Cup. The event is being organized by the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce and will be overseen by officials with the fire and police departments,” said City Manager Jim Bennett.
Next, Council went into executive session to discuss the vacant city clerk position and a potential candidate. About a half hour later Council went back into session, announcing their choice for the new city clerk.
Councilor Don Gardner made the motion to appoint Bev Labbe as city clerk, with all councilors voting in favor of the motion. Labbe most recently served as assistant to Solid Waste Director Dana Fowler.
In other business, councilors:
• Held an annual training session; and
• Held a brainstorming/goal-setting session.
Council’s next regular meeting will be held Monday, Feb. 7, at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
