Dicey weather week nets lone ski meet

    MADAWASKA, Maine – High school cross country teams got in one last cross country meet last week before the rain hit. Fort Kent recorded a win on the girls’ side while Madawaska took home the win on the boys’ side.
     In the girls’ race, Fort Kent teamed up for the top five spots and a 10-30 win over Presque Isle with Justine Cyr getting the individual win with a time of 15:40 followed by Jessica Caron at 16:46, Kaitlyn Bernard at 16:57, Grace Boutout at 18:01 and Nicole Chasse at 18:39.
Presque Isle earned eight of the following nine positions for second place. Caribou took third with 72 points followed by Fort Fairfield with 87, Madawaska with 101 and Van Buren with 111.
Presque Isle finishers included Julie Brown in sixth at 19:30; Erin Thomas in seventh at 19:38; Molly Hamel in eighth at 20:10; Amanda Underwood in ninth at 20:22; Halley Bartlett in 11th at 20:53; Kristena McKenney in 12th at 21:12; Amber Griffin in 13th at 21:39; Erika McKay in 14th at 21:47; Anne Elish in 19th at 22:14; Kelsey Park in 20th at 22:15; and Jennifer Steeves in 25th at 26:06.
Caribou finishers included Kristina Stephens in 10th at 20:32; Brianna Jones in 17th at 22:12; Ally Hessert in 21st at 22:44; and Deavin Gustafson in 26th at 27:15.
Finishers for Fort Fairfield included Sadie Ayoob in 15th at 21:57 and Shannon Towle in 16th at 22:05.
On the boys’ side, Madawaska earned a 26-35 win over Caribou with three team members in the top 10. The teams were followed by Fort Kent with 43 points, Fort Fairfield with 58, Presque Isle with 70 and Van Buren with 91.
Nick Michaud of Fort Kent took the individual top spot with a time of 14:11 followed by Presque Isle’s Corey Park at 14:26 and Madawaska’s G.H. Bragdon at 14:45.
Caleb Swanberg took the top position for Caribou skiers in sixth with a time of 15:14. He was followed by Phill Willey in seventh at 15:17; Josh Tardif in 11th at 16:00; Finn Bondeson in 12th at 16:07; Stephan Ciszewski in 14th at 16:25; Jesse Stephens in 15th at 16:42; Taylor Jepson in 16th at 16:54; Luke Finnemore in 19th at 17:33; Jared Sleeper in 21st at 17:39; Spencer McElwain in 25th at 18:26; and Ethan Anderson in 34th at 20:27.
Fort Fairfield finishers included Brandon McLaughlin in 9th with a time of 15:45; Mitch McLaughlin in 17th at 17:08; Noah Rush-Mabry in 23rd at 18:15; Ian Towle in 24th at 18:16; Patrick Kinsey in 32nd at 20:12; and Shane McGillan in 43rd at 28:58.
Other Presque Isle finishers included Eric Morris in 27th at 19:11; Nick Shaw in 28th at 19:44; Faizaan Shamsi in 29th at 19:48; Jared Wezner in 30th at 19:55; Adam Curtis in 33rd at 20:19; Andrew Duplessis in 35th at 20:30; Justin Towle in 36th at 21:03; Layne Waddell in 37th at 21:06; Kurtis Perkins in 38th at 21:16; Adam Chandler in 39th at 21:23; and Sam Porter in 41st at 24:03.
