Mapleton Elementary School recognized Fire Prevention Week in October with a poster contest on the theme of “Every Second Counts: Plan Two Ways Out.” The posters this year needed to have a positive fire safety message on them.
Contest winners were recently announced, with each classroom winner receiving a T-shirt and a smoke detector.
The overall winners in two categories, Pre-K through grade 2 and grades 3-5, were given a ride to school in a Mapleton fire truck. The contest was sponsored through the combined efforts of the Presque Isle Fire Department, Mapleton Fire Department and MMG Insurance.
As a special educational outing, both first grades travelled to the Mapleton Fire Department on a field trip with Adam Rider and B.J. Estey. The kids gave a big shout out to both of these firefighters for all of their help with fire safety education.
First Friday Luncheon
The next First Friday Luncheon will be held on Friday, Dec. 1, at 11:30 a.m. The luncheon will be held at the Mapleton United Methodist Church on Main Street.
The menu is a surprise and most likely will not consist of Thanksgiving leftovers. Everyone is welcome to attend. There is no charge for the lunch but donations will be accepted.
Senior potluck
The Mapleton-Chapman-Castle Hill seniors will have their first Monday potluck luncheon on Dec. 4. Dinner will be served at 11:30 a.m. at the Mapleton United Methodist Church on Maine Street.
All seniors are encouraged to attend and bring a dish to share with everyone. Also remember to bring your place setting.
This luncheon has good old-time cooking. Stay afterwards for Bingo and take a chance to win a prize or two.
Snowmobile Club
On Wednesday, Dec. 6, the Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club’s board of directors will meet at the clubhouse at 6 p.m.
For fun and good eating, the Chapman Ridge Runners will hold a potluck dinner for members. There will also be the traditional Yankee Swap of gifts.
During the evening, there will be a discussion of the annual January Fundraising Auction. Members are encouraged to attend the evening’s supper.
