FREDERICKSBURG, Virginia and ASHLAND, Maine – Lorene J. Singer, 72, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 23, 2017. She was born September 5, 1945, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Rosalvo and Ruth (Porter) Orcutt.

Lorene worked many years for The Civilian Engineering Squadron at the former Loring Air Force Base. Following its closure, she transferred and relocated to Quantico, Virginia, Marine Corps Base for almost 10 years before her retirement. Lorene enjoyed keeping busy by reading, crocheting dish cloths or working on jigsaw puzzles. She enjoyed cooking and delighted in preparing her family’s favorites, her “famous” meatloaf and her sweet coffee squares, fudge and rolls. She was truly the glue which kept her family together, and they will cherish her many hand-knitted and crocheted blankets and socks for many years to come.
She is survived by four children, Tina Cooper and her husband, Joseph of Fredericksburg, VA, John Singer and his wife, Elizabeth of Caribou, Brenda Wood and her husband, Todd of Hartland, NB, Canada, and Robert Singer and his wife, Sultana of Henderson, TX; two brothers, Bill Orcutt and his wife, Jan of Eureka, MT, and John Orcutt and his wife, Linda of Garfield, ME; nine grandchildren that she loved with all her heart, Jessica Cooper, Nick Wood, Hannah Cooper, Alex Wood, Zachary Cooper, Tyler Wood, Emmett Singer, Anthony Singer and Austin Singer; and several nieces and nephews that she cherished; as well as two special friends, Ann Canas and Judy Nichols.
Besides her parents, Lorene was predeceased by her husband, Harold Singer, in 1998; an infant daughter, Carol Singer; and two sisters, Lois Farr and Martha Prue.
A funeral service will be celebrated 3:00 PM on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St./PO Box 39, Ashland, with Pastor Nathan Gardiner officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family Thursday afternoon at 1:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Spring interment will be in Ashland Municipal Cemetery.
