CARIBOU, Maine — Members of the Lister Knowlton VFW Auxiliary recently presented a check in the amount of $500 to support the Dalhgren-Skidgel Farm of Hope.
The donation was in conjunction with the annual Auxiliary Make a Difference Day, when members donate time and monetary support to a worthy project that affects not only veterans but the community as well.
This year the local group decided to support the Farm of Hope. The farm met and exceeded the outlined parameters of the Make a Difference Day campaign held by VFW Auxiliary units throughout the nation as a day set aside to support another organization that is doing something above in beyond in support of veterans.
This year, as in the past, the group gathered as Patricia Edgecomb, Auxiliary president, presented the check to John Deveau of the United Veterans of Maine at the end of the annual Hunters Breakfast.
“This check is to support the many veterans in Aroostook County who will benefit from the Dalhgren-Skidgel farm, and together we are making a huge difference in the lives of our veterans in need,” said Edgecomb.
“This is not about a single organization, this is about all veterans and the continued need to support them and get them back into the workforce,” said Deveau.
Caribou VFW Commander Roger Felix also addressed the group, stating, “Even though Make a Difference Day comes only once a year, we know the continued support the Auxiliary has shown towards this mission is ongoing throughout the year.”
