FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The Town of Fort Fairfield was recently recertified in the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System.
The CRS certification rewards jurisdictions that take action to reduce flood damage to insurable property, strengthen and support the insurance aspects of the NFIP, and encourage a comprehensive approach to floodplain management.
Fort Fairfield has been CRS certified since 2001, said Code Enforcement Officer Tony Levesque via a press release. From 2001 to 2016, the town’s CRS certification rating was 8, which saved flood insurance policy holders 10 percent off their flood insurance rates.
The 2017 certification rating is 7, which saves policyholders 15 percent. This increase is savings in due in large part to the diligent work done by members of the town staff, said Levesque.
