‘Basketball for Girls’ program

PRESQUE ISLE – A ‘Basketball for Girls’ program will be held at the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Wieden Gymnasium Saturday, Jan. 29.

The director is Traci Halvorson, a coach at many different levels who played on a state champion basketball team at Lincoln Academy and was a four-year starting guard at the University of Southern Maine.

Registration begins at 8 a.m., with a skill and drill session beginning at 8:30 a.m. At 9 a.m., the UMPI women’s basketball team will work with youths on the team aspect of the game.

Dribbling and ball control will be the areas of concentration from 10:30-11:30 a.m., with pizza being served to those in attendance from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

The UMPI women’s team will then host the College of St. Joseph’s of Vermont at 12:30 p.m.

Those attending should bring two basketballs and proper attire. The program is for girls in grades 5-9 and the fee is $35.
