BANGOR, Maine — The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls fought back against their NCAA Division I opponent Tuesday night, cutting what was once a 22-point deficit down to nine, but the University of Maine Black Bears came away with the 75-55 win at the Cross Insurance Center.

The Black Bears (2-7) got hot early, coming out of the gate with a 20-3 run and looking as though they were going to control the matchup throughout. The Owls (3-4), however, regained their composure after falling behind 40-18 late in the first half. They scored the final two points of the first half and the first 11 of the second to get within nine points.

Maurice Harris hit a 3-pointer and he and Kevin Collins both converted conventional 3-point plays just after intermission, while a driving layup by Anthony Chacho capped the scoring run.

UMaine then turned things around by going on a 12-2 flurry. They built the lead to 25 points with just under eight minutes to play and settled for the 20-point margin of victory.

Collins led all scorers with 18 points and he also grabbed six rebounds. Harris ended up with 14 points and Chacho added nine points and eight rebounds.

The Owls travel to the Boston area this weekend and take on Pine Manor on Saturday. The following afternoon, they will visit the Fisher Falcons. Both games are scheduled for a 1 p.m. tip.
