HOULTON, Maine — Houlton Middle-High School announced Thursday, Dec. 7, that Dylan Crockett has been chosen to receive the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizen Award.

Each year this prestigious award is presented to a high school senior who exemplifies the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.

Crockett was among three outstanding members from the Class of 2018 to be nominated for the honor by faculty at Houlton High School before being voted in as the winner by the senior class. In addition to local recognition, he will compete against other DAR winners from throughout Maine in the Good Citizen Essay Scholarship Contest and will travel to the Esther Eayres Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution in April where he will be honored for his accomplishments.

Crockett is an honors student who is actively involved in a variety of leadership activities within the community and at school. He is a member of Houlton High School’s Chapter of the National Honor Society, and was selected as an Ambassador to the Maine Youth Leadership Seminar on volunteerism, leadership, and character. Crockett was also a Maine Learning Technology Initiative Screensaver Challenge winner for his art and has been named Student of the Month.

He excels in academics and is particularly interested in geography and history, while also participating in church plays. Crockett is a volunteer with the CHOICES After School Program and with the Houlton Middle School After School Program, and he was a team leader with this year’s Special Olympics.

In addition, he is active in his church, youth and prayer groups, and works as a counselor at Vacation Bible School. His passions include writing, videography, music, travel, trying new foods, and volunteering.

Crockett is employed at McDonalds and has previously worked in various landscaping positions. He plans on attending college in state and is considering a career in counseling or education. Crockett resides in Smyrna with his grandparents Russell and Sophia Beauchemin.
