Beaver fall athletes gain honors

WASHBURN, Maine — Fall sports awards were presented Nov. 28 at the Washburn District High School Gymnasium, with members of the girls’ and boys’ soccer teams and the girls’ and boys’ cross country teams recognized during the evening.

Ben Goodwin presented certificates and pins to members of the varsity boys’ soccer team: Jovanni Tavares, Konner Jordan, Devon Maynard, Eddie McLaughlin, Aidan Churchill, Jacob Maynard, Braedon Campbell, Colby Hewitt, Chase Bates, Shawn Helton, Josh Jackson, Shayne Scott, Patrick Tardie, Joseph West, Daniel Arce, Dylan Henry, Beckham Vaughn and Steven Nader.

Goodwin presented the Coach’s Award to Churchill and the Most Valuable Player Award to Maynard. All-Aroostook certificates went to Maynard and Jordan. Goodwin made a special presentation to Caleb Thompson for his work with the goalies.

Andy Churchill presented awards to the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams. Receiving certificates and pins for the girls were Kassie Farley, Bobbie Campbell, Caroline Brown, Raegyn Chavez, Kyla Cunningham, Kyli Farley, Madison Miller, Brianna Turner, Emerson Turner and managers Emma Johnston, Emerson Turner, Brooklyn Tupper and Sydney Chavez.

Churchill presented the co-Most Valuable Female Runners award went to Kassie Farley and Miller and the Coach’s Award to Brown. The Most Improved Runner award winner was Campbell.

Receiving pins and certificates for the boys were Devon Maynard, Konner Jordan, Aidan Churchill, Gavin Dunagan, Jacob Maynard, Shayne Scott and Eddie McLaughlin.

McLaughlin was named the Coach’s Award winner. The co-Most Valuable Male Runners award winners were Churchill and Maynard.  

Kassie Farley earned a three-year letter award, while Miller and Churchill received recognition for being named All-Aroostook. Coach Churchill presented the “Dick Hartford Award” for 2017 to Maynard.   

Coach Marcie Barbarula and assistant coaches Crystal Hobbs and Greg Miller presented awards to varsity girls’ soccer team members. Managers Brooklyn Tupper and Sydney Chavez and players Alexi Carney, Katie Easler, Carly Bragg, Samantha Churchill, Julia Dahlgren, Kassandra Farley, Samantha White, Raegyn Chavez, Kyli Farley, Charley Hobbs, Emma Johnston, Madison Miller, Brianna Turner, Emerson Turner, Tru Drost, Lura Page and Amanda White all were presented certificates and pins.

Kassie Farley, Churchill, Dahlgren, Sydney Chavez and White claimed three-year letter awards.  Kassie Farley and Miller were named All-Aroostook. Carney was named the Most Improved Player and Miller was named the Rookie of Year. Kassie Farley was named the team’s Most Valuable Offensive Player and Easler was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player.

Athletic Administrator Ron Ericson presented varsity letter jackets to Easler, Maynard, White and Sydney Chavez.
