PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Lena M. (Dudley) Kenney, 97, passed into the open arms of her Lord and Savior on December 11, 2017, surrounded by her family.
She was born on March 27, 1920, in Castle Hill, the daughter of Warren L. Dudley Sr. and E. Mae Bird Dudley. She graduated from Mapleton High School in 1938 and in 1940 married Murray, son of Bernard and Iva (Bean) Kenney of Presque Isle.
She was a homemaker on the farm in Castle Hill for over 40 years, raising a family of five. She had a secretarial position at Skyway Junior High in the late 60’s to 1972. She and Murray moved to Presque Isle in 1984 and wintered in Sebastian, FL, until 1999. They resided at Leisure Gardens in their last years.
Lena was a member of the Mapleton United Methodist Church for 68 years, teaching Sunday School and serving a term as President of the United Methodist Women’s group. She was also on the Church Board and other Church activities over the years, and was a past member of the Eastern Star of Washburn. She and Murray enjoyed many years of square dancing.
Lena was predeceased by her parents, husband, Murray in 2011; two sons, Darrell and Clayton; sisters, Evelyn Wilcox, Marjorie Lovley, Madelene Cronkite, and brothers, Waldemar and Guy.
She is survived by three sons, Russell and wife, Kay (House), of Portland, and their son, Barry (Patty) and their sons, Dylan and Caleb; David (Lori) and children, Alayna and Tyler; and daughter, Michelle (Jim May), and children Kayleigh, Brian, and Aidan; Maylen and wife, Judy (Packard), of Castle Hill and son, Mark, daughter, Stacey (Leif Peterson) and children, Emily and Joshua; Kendall and companion, Wendy Holt, of South Portland and his daughters, Meghann and son, Tyler, Kate, and his son, Alex; two daughters, Janet and husband, David Hopkins, of Leeds, and daughters, Holly Higgins, Heather Dixon and children Conner and Kylee, Krista and one son, David-Michael (Tiffani); Karel of Mapleton and her son Scott and his son, Matthew; half-brothers Warren (Jackie) SC, Donald ( Diane) of Patten, Paul (Dotty) of Easton, half-sisters Mary Randall of Winthrop, Pat Condon (Byron-“Mo”) of Sydney, and Ellen Lausier (Ken) of Winthrop; brothers-in-law Beryl Kenney (Donna) of Presque Isle, Lyle (Dawn), sisters-in-law Christine McPherson of Mapleton, Althea (John) Sweeney of Portland, and Phyllis Kenney of Presque Isle, 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
At Lena’s request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Castle Hill Cemetery.
