OAKFIELD, Maine — A Daytona Beach, Florida, man sustained serious injuries Thursday afternoon when his tractor trailer went off the road two miles south of the Oakfield exit on Interstate 95.
Herman Long, 75, was traveling south in a 2007 Volvo tractor trailer when his big rig went off the right-hand side of the road and overturned around 2:51 p.m., according to Sgt. Jeffrey Clark of the Maine State Police Troop F division.
Long, who was not wearing a seatbelt according to police, was ejected through the passenger door window and became pinned. The vehicle came to a rest on its passenger side.
The trailer was filled with frozen food products from McCain’s potato plant in Easton. None of the contents was spilled.
Long was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital by ambulance. Police described the injuries as serious but not life threatening.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by members of the Houlton and Oakfield fire departments, Houlton ambulance service and Maine Department of Transportation. Troopers from the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit also were on scene to assist.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
