TOWNSHIP 8, RANGE 5, Maine — A 57-year-old Chester man escaped injury Tuesday evening after his vehicle struck a moose while driving along U.S. Route 11 just north of Moro Plantation.

Robert Harmon was driving north at about 4:47 p.m. in a 2014 Hyundai sedan when a moose ran into the roadway. According to Sgt. Jeffrey Clark of the Maine State Police Troop F division, Harmon was unable to avoid hitting the animal due to the slippery road conditions.

The moose was killed in the collison and Harmon’s vehicle sustained extensive damage to the front end. Harmon was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

No charges were filed in the case.
