CASWELL and HOMESTEAD, FL – Brian Harold Barnes, 54, husband of Julie (Hicks) Barnes, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 17, 2017, in Homestead, FL. He was born July 3, 1963, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Garald F. and Dawn B. (Foss) Barnes.

He was a graduate of the Limestone High School, Class of 1981, where he was active in the Future Farmers of America. He was also a graduate of the NMVTI Diesel Mechanics Program, Class of 1983. Farming was in his blood and was an important part of his life. He worked for several local farmers before moving to Homestead, FL, where he worked for Richards Tractors and Implements and most recently had been employed by South Florida Water Management. Brian loved his family, thoroughly enjoyed his dogs, a good meal, Sunday drives, woodworking in his garage, but most of all he loved going home to Maine. Brian was quick with a joke and a smile, and always had time for his friends.
In addition to his parents, Brian was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, George and Gorgie Foss; paternal grandparents, Harold “Jake” and Louise Barnes; one brother, Michael S. Barnes; and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife, Julie of Homestead, FL; two stepsons, Joseph Hicks and Daniel Hicks; one stepdaughter, Crystal Hicks, all of Florida; two sisters, Susan J. Barnes of Hookset, NH, and Beth Barnes Tilmont and her husband, Scott, and son, Eric, all of Limestone; two stepbrothers, Eddie Farrell and his wife, Vicki, of Calais and John Farrell and his wife, Lois, of Princeton; one stepsister, Linda Cropley and her husband, Omar, of Brookton; several stepgrandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to numerous to mention.
Friends may call Saturday, June 30, 2018, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where a memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Webster Cemetery, Limestone. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
