Exercise class hosts Open Houses to promote bone health for osteoporosis sufferers

Aroostook RSVP and Cary Medical Center’s Healthy You program cordially invite the public to the Bone Builders Open House events in January 2018.

The first event will be held in Fort Fairfield on Thursday, January 4 from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Fort Fairfield town board room. The ongoing Fort Fairfield class meets at that same location every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The second open house in January will be in Easton on Monday, January 8 from 9:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. as they introduce the new classes that will meet on Mondays and Fridays.

RSVP Bone Builders is an evidence-based exercise program for individuals age 55 and over who want to counteract the negative effects of osteoporosis. Trained RSVP volunteers lead Bone Builders participants in weight bearing exercises designed to address specific areas of the body affected by osteoporosis. Studies have shown that people who participate in Bone Builders and similar exercise programs twice a week for one year can increase their bone density by an average of one percent. In addition to building bone density, benefits of these Bone Builders classes include improved balance and poise, increased energy and mobility, and decreased blood pressure.

There are two release forms that must be completed prior to participation in the class, so please stop by one of the Open Houses to register and pick up the required paperwork. While there, enjoy some refreshments and view a class demonstration to find out more about the benefits of this free exercise program that is available in Caribou, Fort Fairfield, Washburn, Presque Isle, and now, Easton. For more information please call Bethany Zell, Healthy You Program Director, at 498-1361 for more information on other classes that are available or to register.
