VALRICO, FL, AND WASHBURN, Maine – Robert James Kirschmann went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 20, 2017, born March 21, 1934, in Pittsburgh, Pennslvania, to Carl and Sophia (Weiss) Kirschmann.
He was a city boy, son of a steel mill worker, who met and fell in love with a country girl, a coal miner’s daughter. Robert married Roberta (Ryder) on June 6, 1954. Robert then joined the United States Air Force and faithfully served 20 years, retiring in Stockholm, Maine. Robert and Roberta settled on a 110-acre farm and raised their six children there. He loved planting and tending his gardens, was well known for his Gladiola flowers and shared them with many. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, and loved nature. In 2010, they moved to Washburn, Maine, during the summer and spent their winters in Valrico, Florida.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Roberta; daughters, Roseline and husband, Errol Forsman, Kathryn and husband, Bruce Drost, Heidi and husband, David Rossignol; sons, William, David, and Michael Kirschmann; 17 grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Geraldine and Ruth. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Sophia; brothers, Paul, Carl, Irwin, Donald and Chester; and sisters, Anna and Lousie.
There will be no services at this time. Funeral services will be in June 2018 at the Caribou Veterans Cemetery.
