BETTY JANE ‘NANA’ MCCORMICK, HOULTON – Betty Jane ‘Nana’ McCormick, 85, passed peacefully on December 22, 2017, in Houlton, surrounded by family and friends. She was born on September 21, 1932, in Sommerville, the daughter of John and Gladys Grotton.
Betty grew up on the family farm with her parents and thirteen siblings. She married Fred on May 17, 1954, and moved around the country while her husband served in the US Army before moving back to Unity and eventually settling in Houlton in 1966.
In life, she loved spending time with her family- who were her greatest joy – raising not only her own children and grandchildren but also those of many others. She enjoyed baking and cooking, which she did exceptionally well, spending time with her flower and vegetable gardens, sharing her gift for gardening with others throughout Houlton, rooting for the Red Sox and played a mean game of cribbage.
Nana will be best remembered for her generosity, spreading kindness, joy and love to all who knew her.
She is survived by her three children, Kathleen and her husband, David, Brent and his wife, Susan, Tony and his wife, Tammy; six grandchildren, Kyle and his wife, Sarah, Ian, Tessa, Duncan, Samuel and Thomas; sisters, Rita, Joyce, Judy and Nina; brothers, Jerry, Tony and Gordon; sisters-in-law, Marie, Barbara and Jacki and brother-in-law, Maynard. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Frederic; four brothers and two sisters.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2018 and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the Maine Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, 383 US Route One Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
