Although snow had yet to start falling Thursday morning, the impending storm has wiped out sporting events scheduled for Thursday.
The Houlton girls basketball game at Presque Isle has been moved to Friday (junior varsity at 5:30 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m.). The Shires are undefeated on the season with a 6-0 record and are the top-ranked team in Class C North, according to the Maine Principals Association Heal Points standings. Presque Isle is 3-2 on the year and is currently seventh in Class B North.
The Katahdin girls at Easton game has been moved to Jan. 16 at 6 p.m. Katahdin is 2-4 on the season and is ranked seventh in Class D North, while Easton is 1-5 and ninth.
The Washburn at Ashland boys and girls doubleheader will now be played Monday, Jan. 15, with the boys’ contest tipping off first at 2 p.m.
The Presque Isle boys game at Orono, originally scheduled Dec. 23, but rescheduled to Thursday, Jan. 4, has been postponed. The game will now be played Monday, Jan. 8, at 6 p.m.
Other cancellations include the Nordic freestyle meet scheduled at Madawaska Friday and the alpine meet at Bigrock in Mars Hill Saturday. Friday’s Nordic meet was cancelled due to the storm and predicted wind chill temps, while Saturday’s Alpine meet was postponed due to the predicted extremely low wind chill temps.

Girls basketball
Shead 54, East Grand 33 — At Danforth, Shead of Eastport jumped to a 19-4 first-quarter lead and rolled to the road victory. Cassidy Wilder and Halle Sullivan each scored 13 points for the Tigers (4-3), while Justine Cheney added 11.
Hayleigh Shay scored a game-high 24 points for East Grand (0-7), while Mallory Gilman chipped in seven.
Shead led 19-4, 32-8 and 41-18 at the quarter breaks.
Houlton 48, Hodgdon 17 — At Hodgdon, Aspen Flewelling and Kolleen Bouchard each scored 10 points to lead undefeated Houlton (6-0) to victory.
Sydney Howell and Janelle Goff each scored five points for Hodgdon (4-3).
Caribou 52, Fort Kent 28 — At Fort Kent Wednesday, the Vikings received 12 points from Gabrielle Marquis, while Paige Espling added nine and Searra Herbert and Taylor Labreck each had eight as Caribou (6-3) rolled to the victory.
Fort Kent’s Cassidy Lovley scored a game-high 14 points, while Libby Lapointe added 10. The Warriors fell to 5-2 on the season.
Fort Fairfield 51, Wisdom 12 — At St. Agatha, the visiting Tigers rolled to the lopsided win as Kourtney West poured in 16 points, while Hunter St. Pierre added seven. Alyssa Banville led Wisdom with seven points.
Boys basketball
Shead 50, East Grand 41 — At Danforth, Darren Turner tossed in 18 points to pace Shead to victory. Logan Trott chipped in 11 points, and Damien Lank added 10 for the winners.
Matthew Potter paced East Grand with 14 points while Lendin Stoddard added 11 and Thomas Gilman had nine.
Shead led 24-7, 44-16 and 49-28 at the quarter breaks.
FF boys 83, Wisdom 43 — At St. Agatha, Isaac Cyr finished with 30 points, including 21 in the first half. Alex Sprague added 13, while Liam McNamee had 12.
For Wisdom, Jack Guerrette had 23 points, while Carter Pelletier and Dylan Weyneth added nine and seven, respectively.
Caribou 55, Fort Kent 53 — At Fort Kent Wednesday, Jake Berkoski’s basket with 3.2 seconds left gave Caribou the two-point victory. Parker Deprey paced the Vikings with 21 points, including four 3-pointers, while Alex Bouchard added 11 points.
Jacob Daigle scored eight of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter as Fort Kent rallied from an 11-point deficit at the end of the third period. Jace Rocheleau added 16 points including four 3-pointers.
