With the start of the new year, one of my goals is to reduce my environmental impact in 2018. I would encourage everyone to consider taking small, easy steps to do the same.
Pine Tree has a very convenient recycling program right here in Houlton. I keep a small laundry-type basket in the kitchen to collect recyclables. I bring them to Pine Tree on my trips around town.
I’m taking less non-essential trips to town. I’ve changed out my light bulbs to LED. Beyond recycling, reusing and reducing consumption, I’ve added another R in my lifestyle: refuse. If I have the option, I choose not to take plastic bags and I choose products that limit plastic packaging.
Last year I took our family to the ocean and was saddened by the amount of plastic washing ashore. Please join me in making 2018 a little cleaner for all of us.
