YORK, Pennsylvania – Alan Ernest Brown, formerly of Presque Isle, Maine, and now residing in York, PA, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at The Pappus House in York, PA, a community-based comfort home. Alan is a graduate of Presque Isle High School class of 1958 and attended Husson College in Bangor. He was born in Presque Isle on April 26, 1940, and moved to York, PA, in the early 1970’s.
Alan was predeceased by his parents, Ernest Oscar Brown and Glenna Louise (Magaw) Brown, of Presque Isle, ME. He is survived by two sisters, Carol Ann (Brown) Wolfe-Wallach and her husband, Steven, of Boynton Beach, FL, and Deborah Jean (Brown) Daigle-Day and husband, Dale, of Presque Isle, ME. He has two sons, Shawn of Deep River, CT, and Donald of Red Lion, PA, and two stepchildren, Scott Senft of Hanover, PA, and Wendy Senft of Baltimore, MD. Alan has three grandchildren, Justin and Ryan of Reading, PA, and Paityn of FL.
He also has four nephews, Scott Daigle of Boca Raton, FL; Troy Daigle with his wife, Jessica, and their children, Sarah, Kassidy, Elizabeth, and Landyn of Limington, ME; Adam Daigle with his wife, Liz, and their son, Dexter, of Lisbon, ME; and Andrew Wolfe with his wife, Arlene, and their children, Skyler, Gemma, and Jayden of Wellington, FL. Rebecca Daigle of York, PA, and her son, Alexander, are his extended niece and great-nephew. His special friends who cared for him the last few years are Michael and Teresa Filipelli, Irene Sweitzer, of York; Ginny Gardner, of Lancaster, and his traveling buddy for the past 40+ years, Larry Daigle of York.
Alan was employed as Head of Maintenance at West York High School for 19 years, retiring in 2008 after he had a heart attack. He had many fond memories of his time spent at the school with students and faculty alike and preparing the athletic fields for competition. For over 25 years he was a popular Little League baseball coach, finally attending both the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA, and the Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Cooperstown, NY, over the past three years. He was overjoyed to see his beloved Boston Red Sox finally win the World Series in his lifetime.
Alan worked as a seat usher in the grandstand at the York State Fair for 45 consecutive years and met many of their guest performers. He would take many family and friends to their favorite shows over the years. He was a well-loved player in World Series Tavern Poker leagues around the local area, qualifying for national tournaments in both Atlantic City and Las Vegas over the years. He developed many close friendships with his fellow “gamblers” who will miss him tremendously. The family is most grateful for their kindness and love toward their Uncle Donkey.

Their care for him was beyond incredible and the family owes them a tremendous gratitude for their compassion and understanding. Our Uncle Alan was their first resident ever, moving in on their first day of operation. There will be a formal memorial service held at the Stillmeadow Church of Nazarene in York, PA, on Saturday, February 17, 2018.
