RUSSELL H. BATES, HOULTON – Russell H. Bates, 90, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at a local health facility. Russ was born on September 8, 1927, in Greene, the son of John and Evelyn Bates.
In 1949 he married Jeanne Lyman of Cheshire, CT. Together they would raise three children, Kathy, David, and John Bates. Russ is survived by his second wife, Lois Lincoln Bates, of Houlton; two brothers, Bernard and Carl Bates of Greene; four grandchildren, Peter Bates and his wife, Monica, James Bates all of Houlton, Leah Rarick and her husband, Josh, of Ohio, and Christopher Roberts and his wife, Sharon, of Florida. He also leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Carole Bates of Houlton, a son-in-law, Ray Roberts; and four stepchildren, Terry Lincoln and his wife, Rachel, of Houlton, Randy Lincoln of Hodgdon, Brent Lincoln and his wife, Teresa, of Houlton, and Sheryl Wilson and her husband, Kirk, of Hodgdon; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Jeanne, a daughter, Kathy, two sons, David and John, as well as two brothers, Walter and Alfred, and a sister, Marion.
The family would like to thank Madigan Estates for the wonderful care he received. Friends may call at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Dunn Funeral Home, where a service will be conducted at 11 a.m. with the Revs. Travis Glatter and Wayne Robertson officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to a reception at the Military St. Baptist Church immediately following the service. Interment will take place in the spring at Linneus Cemetery, Linneus.
