Presque Isle public works crews prepare for incoming freezing rain, sleet

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — In preparation for a storm system that will bring a mixture of rain, sleet and freezing rain throughout much of Maine Thursday and Friday, Presque Isle Public Works has been working round the clock throughout Wednesday and Thursday to clear snow from ditches and drains in town and along the surrounding rural roads.

Public Works Deputy Director Chris Perkins said on Thursday that clearing snow allows rainwater to enter drains in town, which prevents further icy roads due to sleet and freezing rain accumulation.  On back roads, clearing as much snow from the road as possible before Friday’s anticipated wintry mix and Saturday’s winter storm also will create less problems for drivers on the road.

“We’ve been working to get the country roads and the drains in town opened up before the bad weather comes,” Perkins said.
