Mapleton pageants to be held Saturday at PIHS

Mapleton will soon have several new queens to represent the community.

On Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m., the 2011 Little Miss and Pre-Teen Miss Pageant will be held at the Presque Isle High School auditorium. Eight girls will be vying for the title of Little Miss Mapleton, which will be crowned by the reigning queen, Elizabeth Collins, the daughter of Darren and Michelle Collins.

• Allison Morton, daughter of Christopher and Suzanne Morton, will be performing a freestyle dance to “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”

• Samantha Boulier, daughter of Gordon and Rachel Boulier, will be singing “Best Day.”

• Delaney Alward, daughter of Chris and Wendy Maple and David Alward, will be performing “Caterpillar Dreams” in sign language.

• Madelyn Buzza, daughter of Aaron and Jennifer Buzza, will be singing “Nothing Is Impossible with God.”

• Libby Kinney, daughter of Kevin and LeRae Kinney, will be performing a dance routine to “All the Single Ladies.”

• Alyssa Addington, daughter of Joshua and Kara Addington, will be singing and tap dancing to “On the Good Ship Lollipop.”

• Mackenna Berube, daughter of Tyler Berube and Jenn Berube, will be singing “Best of Both Worlds.”

• Alexa Perkins, daughter of Michael and Andrea Perkins, will be singing “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.”

Three young ladies will be competing for the title of Pre-Teen Miss Mapleton, which will be crowned by the reigning queen, Marielle Shaw, the daughter of Robert and Paula Shaw.

• Sarah Craig, daughter of Chris and Heather Craig, will be providing a vocal selection entitled “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes.”

• Laura McKenna, daughter of Mark and Lisa McKenna, will be singing “How Can I Keep from Singing?”

• Sydney Craig, daughter of Chris and Heather Craig, will be performing a monologue entitled, “A Diva’s Life.”

This year, the Mapleton pageants are sponsored by the Class of 2014 at PIHS. The students of the class have participated in the planning process and will be taking part in various capacities during the day’s pageants. Tickets can be purchased for $7 from any contestant, or at the door. The Junior Miss, Teen Miss and Miss Mapleton queens will be crowned the same day at an evening pageant scheduled for 7 p.m. at the PIHS auditorium. Reigning queens from surrounding communities are invited to attend.

Following the afternoon pageant, the three oldest divisions will be taking to the stage to see who will be crowned the new Junior Miss, Teen Miss and Miss Mapleton. The four young ladies vying for the title of Junior Miss Mapleton are:

• Emma Langille, daughter of Carroll and Jennifer Langille, will be performing a contemporary dance routine to “Anyway” by Martina McBride.

• Madison Shaw, daughter of Robert and Paula Shaw, will be presenting a piano composition entitled “La Folia.”

• Shaye McHatten, daughter of Matt and Kelly McHatten, will be performing a tap dance routine to “Love is a Crime” by Anatacia.

• Brittany Warner, daughter of Michael and Tina Warner, will be providing a vocal selection to “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus.

TEENS VYING for the title of Teen Miss Mapleton 2011 are, from left:

Naomi McEachern, Rachel Dow, Hannah Stoutamyer and Kali Warner. The pageant will be held April 2 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Presque Isle High School.

• Naomi McEachern, daughter of Bruce McEachern and Pamela McEachern, will be performing a lyrical dance to “You Belong to Me” by Jason Wade.

• Kali Warner, daughter of Michael and Tina Warner, will be providing a vocal selection to “There You’ll Be” by Faith Hill.

• Rachel Dow, daughter of Tony and Lisa Dow, will be presenting a musical performance of the song “Popular” from the Broadway musical “Wicked.”

• Hannah Stoutamyer, daughter of Adam and Kristi Stoutamyer, will be performing a self-choreographed en pointe, modern ballet dance to “Hallelujah” by Alexandra Burke.

One of the two young ladies vying for the title of 2011 Miss Mapleton will be crowned that evening, as well. They include:

• Sarah McEachern, daughter of Bruce McEachern and Pamela McEachern, will be performing a clogging routine to “Firework” by Katy Peary.

• Kelsey Buck, daughter of Brent and Felicia Buck, will be performing a self-choreographed dance routine to “Electricity” from the musical “Billy Elliott.”

The evening pageant will be held in the auditorium at PIHS at 7 p.m. The pageants are being sponsored by the high school’s Class of 2014. Providing entertainment during the pageant will be the reigning Junior Miss Mapleton Hannah Guerrette and Miss Mapleton Whitney LaPointe. Tickets are available from any of the contestants and will be sold at the door. Area visiting queens will receive free admission and are encouraged to attend.

Mapleton Baptist Tour to visit Nova Scotia Tattoo

The 2011 Mapleton Baptist Tour will feature great food, plenty of shopping time and the exciting Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo in Halifax. Quite simply, the Tattoo is the world’s largest indoor show. Featuring over 2,000 world-class Canadian and international military and civilian performers, the Tattoo continues to live up to its reputation as one of the world’s premier cultural and entertainment events. It is a fast-paced, two-and-a-half-hour family show featuring music, dance, acrobatics, drama and comedy in a number of innovative acts. The Tattoo is held at the Halifax Metro Centre, a modern, air-conditioned arena located in the very heart of downtown Halifax.

This deluxe motor coach tour leaves Mapleton Tuesday, July 5 and returns Friday, July 8. This tour will have a professional driver and escort. Spring cleaning?

The Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile and ATV Club is now planning for their gigantic yard sale, which will be held in September. During spring cleaning, if residents find themselves with items they would like to donate now (no clothing please), please call Linda Pelletier at 762-3741. All proceeds will benefit the building fund.
