Any ID Who? (week of January 24, 2018)

The Caribou Public Library Archives and Special Collections contain numerous unidentified photographs of WWI military personnel. Many of these pictures are “orphaned,” or unidentified.

This photograph is our ninth in this series. This military man is wearing a WWI overcoat with a shoulder sleeve insignia. It looks like a 1st Army Group black trapezoid ‘A’ (Gothic “A”). The lower section of the “A” was used to indicate different arms of the service. The image on the bottom part of the letter “A” is indistinguishable. Two chevrons above the cuff represent war service. There is a pin on his cap, but it is difficult to see what kind it is. It may be an officer’s rank insignia pin, such as an eagle, but the photo is not clear enough to see.

If anyone knows who this person is, contact the Director of the Caribou Public Library, Anastasia Weigle, at 207-493-4214 or by email at librarydirector@cariboumaine.org.
