ST. AGATHA, Maine – The Ashland girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball teams recorded a successful trip up Route 11 to the St. John Valley Friday night with both pulling out wins over Wisdom.
In the girls’ game Mindy Chasse recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Lady Hornets to a 40-34 win. Melissa Cray added 11 for the 5-3.
Wisdom got 30 points from the tandem of Nicole St. Pierre and Kayla Daigle, who each scored 15.
The Lady Hornets started the week with a 43-29 loss to a surging Central Aroostook team, which has won seven straight games.
Sarah Long paced the Lady Panthers with 21 points followed by Amber Bradley with 11 while Chasse put up 13 for Ashland and Whitney Flint added 10.
“We’ve been committing too many turnovers and just not doing things as well as we may have been in the beginning [of the season],” said Ashland coach Bill Nemer. “Central Aroostook just has huge players and if they keep themselves in the game, they can be tough.”
Ashland moves into seventh place in Eastern Maine Class D girls’ basketball while the Lady Panthers take over the no. 2 position at 7-3.
On the boys’ side Tyler Cote paced Ashland with 13 points in a 63-42 win over Wisdom. Cutis Belanger added 12 and Jeremy Tarr put up 11 including nine from the three-point arc in the second quarter.
