I usually don’t like to endorse any particular entity or organization due to the fact that I can’t endorse all of them. I will, however, endorse one particular organization due to the fact that this facility’s founder and CEO, Galen Cole, has done so much for veterans and members of the serving military. I am speaking of the Cole Land Transportation Museum in Bangor.
As I am a person who absolutely loves old things, especially old things restored or in good working order, you can imagine my enjoyment the first time I visited the museum. I took hours just viewing the photos on the wall as you enter the main room. There are logging photos, trucking photos and even photos taken in winter with horses.
Then there are the old snow plows, from an antique Cle-trac to a more modern Oshkosh Air Force plow with double wings, and the snow rollers and other snow removal equipment from days long gone. Then we can’t forget the farm trucks and tractors and trailers, and the automobiles that are there for our viewing pleasure.
They also have a full size diesel electric locomotive from the B & A Railroad there, along with the scaled-down replica of a rail station.
There is even some earth moving equipment and military memorabilia on display.
For the children, there are bikes and trikes and winter hand sleds galore, as well as old snowmobiles and just about everything you can imagine from days we only read about now.
You owe it to yourself and your children to visit the museum and get a view of the old times preserved. Thank you, Galen Cole, for your insight to keep this facility open and thriving so we old timers can remember when . . .
