Shaking off a tough home loss to No. 1 Old Town/Orono the previous evening, the Presque Isle Wildcat hockey team picked up a 1-0 victory at home over John Bapst Saturday to improve to 7-3 on the season.
The only goal of the match came in the first period when Colby Carlisle scored off assists from Tanner Smith and Gage LeTourneau. Andre Daigle picked up his first shutout of the season in goal, registering 15 saves.
Dan Sprague faced 33 shots in net for the Crusaders, who fell to 1-6.
“It was a tough game 24 hours after playing an even tougher game,” said PI coach Carl Flynn. “We were sore and tired, but we fought through and found a way to win. This will be a valuable lesson for us later in the season.”
On Friday, Antii Jarvicare, Jacob Dubay and Cam Tower scored goals for the Black Bears, who overcame a two-goal deficit to claim a 3-2 victory.
LeTourneau notched a goal and assisted on another by Connor DeMerchant for the Wildcats. Carlisle contributed a pair of assists.
Kohle Parker faced 33 shots for Old Town/Orono and Daigle faced 27 for Presque Isle.
“We proved that we can play with the best of the best,” Flynn said. “We came up a little short, but we dominated them for two out of three periods and we outshot them, so it was still a huge confidence boost for the team.”
Hampden Academy 5, Black Hawks 1 — At the Penobscot Ice Arena in Brewer Saturday, Marcus Dunn and Cooper Leland each recorded two goals and an assist to propel the Broncos to the victory over Houlton.
Sam Economy chipped in with a goal for Hampden (8-3) while Adam Thompson added an assist. Cooper Ryan made 21 saves.
A.J. Henderson scored off a Gavin Vining assist for Houlton (2-7) while Ian Neureuther finished with 26 saves.
