New position — Miss Harriet Langlais, who has been stenographer in the B. & A. freight office, has been transferred to Van Buren and left for her new position, where she will be located in her hometown.
New purchase — Dr. Clarence Harrigan has purchased a dental business in Millinocket and has assumed the practice of his profession there.
75 Years Ago – Jan. 28, 1943
Successful event — The annual Elks Ball held at the Elks Home was a most enjoyable and successful affair, with 70 couples in the grand march led by Exalted Ruler Oscar P. Benn and Mrs. Benn.
High rank in music — Miss Georgia Holden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Holden, a first-year student at Oak Grove Seminary, is one of the five highest-ranking students in piano at the school, which includes post-graduates as well as undergraduates.
50 Years Ago – Jan. 24, 1968
Closing stores — B. S. Green, who has been conducting stores in Danforth and Caribou, has decided to discontinue these two stores and devote his entire attention to his two stores at Houlton and Presque Isle.
Meeting — At a meeting of the attorneys of Houlton it was unanimously voted to close their offices all day Monday until March 25.
25 Years Ago – Jan. 27, 1993
Donation — Betty Childers, president of the Houlton Regional Hospital Auxiliary, presented a check to Craig Bean, administrator, toward the mammography unit. The donation represents proceeds from the Gift Shop and other auxiliary activities.
Field trip — Girl Scout Troop 326 recently visited with Hairworks Studio as part of earning the ‘Look Your Best’ badge. Swen Pocock, Jami Robinson, Angela Eash, and Heidi Tarr had the chance to talk with Hairworks Studio hair stylist Jenny I. McNally, Devon Pelkey and Lois Eash, leader.
