Probus Club honors founding member
Irish Eyes were smiling when the Probus Club of Central Aroostook met on St. Patrick’s Day to honor Mary McBride, one of the founding members of the Probus Club of Central Aroostook, on her birthday.
President Karen Sweeney called the meeting to order.
Mel Fitzherbert, program chairman, then introduced guest speaker Tammy DeLong from the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging.
Tammy spoke to the group about Governor LePage’s proposed cut to the Medicare Buy-In Program in Part AAA of the budget now before the Legislature. She passed out detailed information as to just how this would affect every Medicare recipient.
She also gave out very informative information regarding Medicare-covered preventive services. Tammy told the group that the offices for the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging have been relocated to 1 Edgemont Drive and the additional space is very nice.
Following Tammy’s informative presentation, the group was entertained by Dan Ladner who played some great old Irish songs and the group sang along.
Following a wonderful luncheon provided by the staff of NMCC, a birthday cake was presented to Mary, along with a gift and cards. Mary thanked everyone for their kindness and gave a brief overview of how Probus Club of Aroostook was organized.
She said she will certainly miss all of her friends in Presque Isle but is looking forward to being closer to her family.
Pearl Carmichael read a poem entitled “Building The Nest” and Paul Lynch gave an update on the scholarship that is presented yearly to a NMCC student.
After a rousing singing of “Happy Birthday” to dear Mary, the meeting was adjourned.
