LEO E. HOVEY, HOULTON – Leo E. Hovey, 85, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at Madigan Estates in Houlton. He was born on April 19, 1932, in Houlton, the son of Wallace and Pearl (Lynt) Hovey.
Leo was a graduate of Houlton High School. He then served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1956. He married Joyce Blake and together they would raise their family and share fifty-nine years of marriage. He worked as a lineman for Houlton Water Company for twenty-seven years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows, and served as a Town Counselor on the Budget Committee for the town of Houlton. Leo was also active in many areas of his church. He will be remembered for his incredible sense of humor and practical jokes. He loved his family, community, and most of all his Lord and Savior.
He leaves behind seven children, twenty grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Leo was predeceased by his loving wife, Joyce Hovey, and nine siblings.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Military Street Baptist Church, where a memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Randall Burns officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to a reception at the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the service. A committal with military honors will take place in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery.
