MAPLETON, Maine – Donald Gilson Sr., 84, passed away with family by his side on January 19, 2018. Don was born on January 19, 1934, in Lyndon, Vermont, and is the son of the late Daniel and Mildred Gilson.
After high school, Don enlisted in the Army from 1954 to 1957 and after being discharged, he worked in construction before becoming employed by Maine Public Service from which he retired with over 36 years of service. During his free time, Don enjoyed four-wheeling and hunting.
Don moved into the Maine Veteran’s Home in Caribou in April, 2016. There he received loving care from all of the staff. The family will be forever grateful for the respect and dignity that he was afforded by the staff.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janet, of 53 years; one sister, Muriel Hewitt and husband, John, of Portland; three sons, Donald Gilson Jr. and wife, Jeannie, of Presque Isle, Douglas Gilson of Chapman, and Dennis Gilson and wife, Susan, of Presque Isle; and five grandchildren, Kyle, Sara, Kelsey, Dylan, and Briana.
In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by one son, Daniel G. Gilson.
