With the regular season rapidly winding to a close, teams are busy jockeying for key playoff positions in basketball and hockey.
Friday and Saturday was a busy time for squads with a bundle of games, matches and meets held.
Monday’s basketball slate includes five doubleheaders. They are Orono at Presque Isle (girls at 4:15 p.m. boys at 5:45 p.m.), Katahdin at Madawaska (boys at 4:30 p.m., girls at 6 p.m.), Woodland at East Grand (girls at 5 p.m. boys at 6:30 p.m.), Washburn at Ashland (girls at 5:30 p.m/ and boys at 7 p.m.) and Easton at Wisdom (girls at 5:30 p.m. and boys at 7 p.m.).
In single games, Greater Houlton Christian Academy is at the Hodgdon boys and Stearns of Millinocket is at the Houlton boys, with both tipping off at 7 p.m.
In hockey, Presque Isle travels to Bangor to take on John Bapst at 6:30 p.m.

Girls basketball
East Grand 40, Wisdom 20 — At St. Agatha Friday, the Vikings doubled up Wisdom. Individual results were not reported.
Easton 48, Van Buren 30 — At Van Buren Friday, Isabelle Morin’s 22-point performance sparked the Bears to victory over the Crusaders. Morin hit four 3-pointers in the game. Emma Lamoreau added nine points for Easton (3-10).
Tiffany Morrow led Van Buren (2-11) with 13 points and Leah Gendreau posted eight points.
Mount Desert Island 58, Caribou 49 — At Bar Harbor Friday, Madeleine Good connected for 16 points to help the Trojans hold off the Vikings. Julia Watras and Hannah Chamberlain contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Mount Desert Island.
Gabrielle Marquis sparked Caribou with a game-high 17 points, Searra Hebert added 15 and Paige Espling chipped in with nine points.
Presque Isle 48, Ellsworth 33 — At Ellsworth Friday, Emily Wheaton scored 13 of her game-high 21 points in the second half to help Presque Isle pull away for the win.
Madison Jandreau knocked down four 3-pointers on her way to 12 points for the Wildcats.
Katelynn Bagley led Ellsworth with 11 points while Trinity Montigny had eight.

Madawaska 47, Katahdin 31 — At Stacyville Friday Brianne Thibeault scored 16 points to carry the Owls to victory. Hannah Nadeau netted 13 points for Madawaska.
Haley Landry led Katahdin with eight points.
Southern Aroostook 56, Madawaska 45 — At Madawaska Saturday, Southern Aroostook had five players score at least nine points, led by Kacy Daggett’s 12 points and Kassidy Mathers’ 11, as the Warriors improved to 13-2.
Makaelyn Porter had 10 points for the winners while Kylie Vining and Sydney Brewer chipped in with nine apiece.
Jenna Dugal’s game-high 14 points and Brianne Thibeault’s 12 paced 8-5 Madawaska.
Shead 37, Hodgdon 31 — At Hodgdon Saturday, Cassidy Wilder scored 11 points to help the Tigers of Eastport improve to 9-7.
Janelle Goff scored nine points to lead Hodgdon (7-7).
Ellsworth 49, Caribou 45 — At Ellsworth Saturday, Trinity Montigny scored 13 points to help the Eagles pull out the win.
Hannah Sargent added 11 while Katelynn Bagley netted 10 for the Eagles.
Paige Esping scored a game-high 18 points for Caribou.
Mount Desert Island 54, Presque Isle 27 — At Bar Harbor Saturday, Emily Banks scored a game-high 16 points and Georgia Candage added 14 more as Mount Desert Island swept the season series with Presque Isle by holding the Wildcats to a season-low 27 points.
MDI beat Presque Isle 51-33 on Dec. 28, which had been PI’s lowest previous output. Madeline Good and Hannah Chamberlain combined for 12 points for the 11-4 Trojans.
Emily Wheaton’s 13 points led Presque Isle, also 11-4.
Fort Fairfield 39, Ashland 28 — At Fort Fairfield Saturday, the Tigers jumped to an 11-0 lead and held off several Ashland runs to pull out the win.
Twin sisters Sara (13 points) and Sadie Edgecomb (eight) combined for 21 points and Brenna Levasseur added eight more points for the 10-6 Tigers. Amber Chasse led Ashland with 12 points.
Houlton 64, Stearns 35 — At Wentworth Gym in Millinocket Saturday, Kolleen Bouchard poured in 31 points to lead Houlton by Stearns. Teagan Ewings added 14 points for the Shires.
Katherine Alley scored 14 points to lead Stearns.
Boys basketball
Houlton 51, Calais 46 — At Houlton Friday, Houlton, Cam Cleary scored 16 points to help the Shiretowners beat the Blue Devils. Keegan Gentle and Nick Brewer tallied 11 points each for Houlton.
Matt Perkins paced Calais with 16 points and Addison Coty posted 14 points.
Madawaska 59, Katahdin 57 — At Stacyville Friday, the visiting Owls outscored the Cougars 22-13 in the fourth quarter to erase a seven-point deficit and pull out the victory. Ben Hebert scored 21 points to pace Madawaska, while Robbie Lausier tallied 14 points and Tristan Cyr added 11.
Katahdin’s Brody Guiggey led all scorers with 29 points and Hunter Craig netted 19.
Wisdom 58, East Grand 57 — At St. Agatha Friday, the visiting Vikings fell by one point. Individual results were not reported.
Easton 44, Van Buren 31 — At Van Buren Friday, the Bears outscored the Crusaders 11-6 in the second quarter to take the lead for good and earn the victory.
Collin Sotomayor and Noah Hanscomb connected for 11 points each to pace Easton. Luc Perreault scored a game-high 16 points to lead Van Buren.
Ellsworth 61, Presque Isle 57 — At Ellsworth Friday, Ellsworth outscored the Wildcats 16-6 in the fourth to hold on to the victory. The Wildcats built a 36-25 halftime lead and were up by as many as 18 points before the host Eagles fought back for the victory.
Ellsworth was led by Zach Harris who had a game-high 24 points, and Jackson Curtis, who had 13 points. Griffin Guerrette scored 21 points and Jonah Hudson netted 15 for PI.
Mount Desert Island 72, Caribou 48 — At Bar Harbor Friday, the Trojans used a balanced scoring attack to beat the Vikings. Derek Collin topped MDI with 11 points, while Andrew Phelps added 10 and Eli Parady netted nine.
Alex Bouchard paced Caribou with 13 points and Jacob Berkoski contributed eight.
Fort Fairfield 76, Ashland 31 — At Fort Fairfield Saturday, the Tigers used a 33-5 run in the third quarter to put the game away.
Fort Fairfield’s Isaac Cyr led all scorers with 18 points. Jared Harvey, Liam McNamee and Alex Sprague contributed 16, 14, and 13 points apiece, respectively.
Ashland was led by Steven Bellanceau with 17 points and Baily Clark added 12.
Ellsworth 66, Caribou 59 — At Ellsworth Saturday, the Eagles outscored the Vikings 26-22 in run-and-gun fourth quarter to notch the win. The Vikings took a 29-21 first-half lead but the Eagles battled back with a 19-8 scoring surge in the third.
Zach Harris paced Ellsworth with 18 points, Bradley Smith added 16, Jackson Curtis put in 12 and Jared Hamilton netted 10.
Nick Allen scored a game-high 21 points for Caribou. Parker Deprey added 14 and Isaac Marker had 12.
Mount Desert Island 63, Presque Isle 46 — At Bar Harbor Saturday, the Trojans avenged an earlier loss to the Wildcats by getting out to the early lead and staying in front throughout.
The win allowed MDI to leap over Presque Isle and move to second in the Class B North standings at 11-2. The Wildcats dropped to 10-4 and are now in third place. Individual results were not reported.
Hodgdon 57, Shead 47 — At Hodgdon Saturday, the Hawks took a 14-point lead into the half en route to the win. Shead would get as close as five points midway through the third quarter, but Hodgdon would go on to win by 10.
Hodgdon (5-10) was paced by Ethan Carter with 21 points and Josh Palmer added 19 points.
Shead (6-9) was led by Ethan Lank with 16 points while Darren Turner and Logan Trott each had 10 points.
East Grand 53, Van Buren 46 — At Danforth Saturday, Lendin Stoddard scored 23 points to spark East Grand to its fourth win in 13 games. Thomas Gilman contributed 11 points, Matthew Potter had eight and Matthew Shay netted six points.
Luc Perreault’s 28 points and Brenton Soucy’s eight led 2-12 Van Buren.
Madawaska 59, Southern Aroostook 46 — At Madawaska Saturday, Tristan Cyr poured in 26 points to lead the Owls by the Warriors of Dyer Brook. Robbie Lausier added 13 points for the Owls.
Xavier Morales scored 12 points to lead Southern Aroostook and Jayden Burpee added 11.
GHCA 80, Wisdom 50 — At St. Agatha Saturday, the Eagles soared to the big win over the Pioneers. Individual results were not reported.
Hockey
Old Town/Orono 7, Presque Isle 1 — At Alfond Arena in Orono Friday, Tyler McConnell scored twice and Sam Henderson racked up four assists to propel the Black Bears to victory.
Ben Allen-Rahill, Josh Wheeler, Tanner Evans and Trent Lick tallied a goal apiece for Old Town-Orono. Kohle Parker made 21 saves.
Thomas Patenaude scored the PI goal off assists from Jake Stevens and Torey Levesque. Goalie Andre Daigle had 28 saves on the evening.
“Penalties killed us and we seemed to be a step behind all night long,” said Wildcat coach Carl Flynn, noting several of the Old Town/Orono goals were the result of power plays.
Presque Isle 6, Camden Hills 3 — The Wildcats bounced back on Saturday by doubling up on Camden Hills in another road contest.
Bailey York scored twice, while Riley Kinney, Colby Bonville, Gage LeTourneau and Eric Benson notched one apiece for the Wildcats, 8-4 and in third place in the Class B North standings.
“Tonight we played with grit and killer instinct,” said PI coach Carl Flynn, “and we made the most of our opportunities.”
Andre Daigle and Bryce Bonville shared the goalie chores for the winners, saving 24 of 27 shots.
Nate Vanderhuyzon, Liam Brining and Bryce Tyler all scored for Camden Hills and goalie Matt Church saved 16 of 22 shots.
Wrestling
Caribou seventh in Bucksport Classic — The Vikings competed in their final regular season competition before the championship meets get underway. At Bucksport Saturday, Caribou scored 44 points to place seventh out of 21 teams.
Cory Jandreau placed second in his 138 lb. weight division, winning two more matches along the way to get up to 107 for his career. Cage Lister was a big surprise in 182 as he took third. He beat Logan Cloutier of Madison in the consolation finals with a third-period pin.
Rylee Saucier in 106, Caleb Robbins in 120 and Kaden DeMerchant in 152 all placed fourth for the Vikings.
Swimming
Carlisle girls 50, George Stevens Academy 40; Ellsworth 59, Carlisle 34 — At Ellsworth Friday, Carlisle’s Madelyn Wing won the 100 butterfly in 1:05.55 and the 500 freestyle in 5:49.97, while Abigail Raymond posted the victory in the 100 backstroke (1:18.63) in the head-to-head competition against both teams. Emily Stillion won the 200 free and the 400 free relay team of Wing, Kyra Thibeault, Abby Espling and Stillion were also victorious against GSA.
Carlisle boys 43, George Stevens Academy 29; Ellsworth 83, Carlisle 10 — The boys also beat GSA and fell to Ellsworth Friday. Double wins for Carlisle against GSA were recorded by James Lau in the 500 free (7:26.83) and the 100 breast (1:20.18). Also taking first place in their individual events were Martin Brozman in the 200 free (2:44.15), Harrison Ma in the 200 individual medley (2:54.35) and Chris Parent in the 100 back (1:19.72). Both the 200 medley relay teams and 400 freestyle relay teams also prevailed for Carlisle against GSA.
Nordic skiing
The Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle was the venue for Friday’s freestyle race, with results as follows:
Caribou girls 30, Madawaska 59, Ashland 62, MSSM 62, Fort Kent 67, Presque Isle 86, Central Aroostook 97, Fort Fairfield 103 — Isabelle Jandreau of Madawaska was the individual winner in 16 minutes and 24 seconds, but team depth gave Caribou the team win.
The Vikes had four skiers in the top 11, led by Macy Wakem in fifth in 19:59 and Ciara Richards in sixth in 20:04.
Izzy Jackson (second in 16:58) led Presque Isle, Dolcie Tanguay of MSSM (third in 19:02), Kirsten Main of Central Aroostook (fourth in 19:30), Willow Hall of Ashland (sixth in 20:05) and Jessica Halsey of Fort Fairfield (10th in 21:08) were the fastest for their teams.
Caribou boys 18, Fort Kent 39, Presque Isle 58, MSSM 69, Madawaska 77, Ashland 100 — The Viking boys featured seven individuals in the top 10, led by Alec Cyr’s third-place finish, to take first place in another Aroostook League meet.
Max Bartley of Presque Isle led the field in 14:31, while Niko Naranja of Fort Kent was the runner-up in 15:16. Seven of the next fastest were from Caribou. Cyr’s time was 15:53, while Emerson Duplissie-Cyr (16:19) and Devin White (16:22) were next.
Harrison Walters of MSSM was seventh in 16:50 and Tristan Pelletier of Ashland 20th in 18:22 to lead their respective teams.
Alpine skiing
Fort Kent girls 14, Presque Isle 51, Greenville 58, Caribou 63 (giant slalom); Fort Kent 12, Caribou 52, Greenville 54, Presque Isle 64 (slalom) — The Warriors swept the races behind Alisha Guimond, who was first overall in the slalom (1:31.85) and second in the giant slalom (1:47.79). Fort Kent had the top four in the slalom and five of the top six in the G.S.
Caribou’s Hope Shea came in fifth in the slalom in 1:40.5 and seventh in the G.S. (1:56.08), while Presque Isle was led by Eleanor St. Peter in the G.S. (ninth, 1:56.43) and Grace Bemis in the slalom (14th in 1:58.7).
Fort Kent boys 11, Central Aroostook 39, Presque Isle 63, Caribou 77 (giant slalom); Fort Kent boys 10, Presque Isle 41, Central Aroostook 66, Caribou 83 (slalom) — The boys from Fort Kent were dominant as Bryce Madore recorded the individual sweep with a win in the G.S. in 1:44.83 and in the slalom in 1:27.67.
Leading Central Aroostook was Lane Grass in the G.S., who was fourth overall in 1:47.47, and Taylor Campbell in the slalom, seventh in 1:37.22. Presque Isle’s Kyler Caron took sixth in both the G.S. (1:49.93) and the slalom (1:36.57) to pace his team. For Caribou, Scott Bray was 13th in the G.S. in 1:54.17 and Nathan Pitre 16th in the slalom in 1:43.59.
Local skiers in the top 10 in the G.S. were Central Aroostook’s Campbell and Bryant Grass. In the slalom, Bryant Grass was eight and PI’s Riley Roderick ninth.
