The Houlton and Presque Isle girls basketball teams square off tonight for the second time on the season. The Shires are fresh off Tuesday’s 55-48 victory at Caribou, while Presque Isle is coming off a 53-33 win over Orono Monday.
In other basketball games Wednesday, the Hodgdon girls travel to Danforth to take on East Grand at 5 p.m., followed by the Greater Houlton Christian Academy boys against East Grand at 7 p.m. Madawaska makes the trip to Ashland for a doubleheader, with the girls game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.; while the John Bapst boys play a make-up game at Presque Isle at 6 p.m.
The Fort Kent girls are at Central Aroostook at 6 p.m., the Houlton boys travel to Caribou to take on the Vikings at 7 p.m.; and the Fort Fairfield boys head to Stacyville to take on Katahdin at 7 p.m.
On the mat, Caribou travels to Fort Kent for the third meeting of the season between Aroostook County’s only two wrestling programs. They split the first two, each winning by a single point. The match begins at 5:30 p.m.
Tuesday was a quiet night for sports with only a handful of basketball games played.
Houlton girls 55, Caribou 48 — At Caribou, the Vikings led by four points midway through the fourth quarter but couldn’t hold on as the Shiretowners remained undefeated.
Kolleen Bouchard poured in 27 points to lead 14-0 Houlton, with Tegan Ewings scoring 11 and Kristin Graham pitching in with eight points.
For 8-8 Caribou, which had jumped to an 18-8 lead late in the first quarter, Searra Herbert tallied 18 points, Gabrielle Marquis netted 14 and Paige Espling added eight.
Fort Fairfield girls 59, Easton 25 — At Fort Fairfield, sophomore Riley Clough scored 13 of the Tigers’ 14 first-quarter points as they jumped out to a 14-3 lead and went on to pick up their 11th win of the season.
Brenna LeVasseur scored 10 points and Sara Edgecomb added nine.
Isabelle Morin paced Easton with 14 points and Lydia Ferris added six.
Fort Kent boys 84, Washburn 35 — At Fort Kent, the Warriors placed four players in double figures, led by Caleb Delisle’s game-high 21 points, en route to their 12th win in 16 games.
Jacob Daigle had 16 points, Camden Jandreau added 14 and Jace Rocheleau netted 10 points for Fort Kent.
Konner Jordan’s 16 points and 11 rebounds paced 0-15 Washburn and Patrick Saucier grabbed 12 rebounds.
Hockey
Black Hawks 0, John Bapst 0 (OT) — At the Millar Civic Center in Houlton, neither squad was able to crease the net through three regulation periods and overtime. The Black Hawks are now 4-7-1 on the season and are clinging to the sixth, and final, playoff spot in the Class B North standings.
John Bapst is now 1-9-1 on the year.
