PIHS chapter enjoys giving back

PRESQUE ISLE — The Presque Isle High School chapter of the National Honor Society has been very active in the community during the 2010-11 school year.

They have participated in Project Linus, making handmade blankets for children in traumatic situations. Other volunteer projects have included distributing toys to underprivileged children at Christmas through Kiwanis, working at the aquatic Special Olympics, decorating an ambulance for the Light Parade, and advertising for the World Cup Biathlon.

A unique project this year was partnering with the Aroostook Agency on Aging to shovel for the elderly who need assistance during the winter.

A focus this year has been placed on helping the Homeless Shelter, donating items throughout the year during times of need for the shelter.

The group’s adviser is Mary White.
In May, the Presque Isle chapter volunteers at the spring Special Olympics. Four members of the Presque Isle chapter are in charge of coordinating all volunteers for this event and the entire chapter volunteers the day of the event, a fun and fulfilling experience. It’s been a busy year, but it has been very rewarding for both the community and the students.

A HELPING HAND —
