The Houlton Recreation Department will have the following activities for Houlton area youth in the coming weeks.
Youth Basketball Programs: The department will offer basketball programs for girls in grades 5-6 and grades 7-8 as well as boys in grades 5-6 and grades 7-8. Registration forms have been sent through the local schools or can be picked up at the recreation center’s main office. This program will run for six weeks starting the week of Feb. 26. The cost is $25 for Houlton resident and $35 for non-Houlton resident. Practices and games will be held on weekdays. Registration deadline is Feb. 9.
Vacation Fun Program: Youth in grades Pre-K to 5 are invited to spend some of their February break at the Vacation Fun Program. It will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 20, Wednesday, Feb. 21, and Thursday, Feb. 22 from 9-11 a.m. Each morning will be filled with games, crafts and contests. Registration is required. Children can sign up for one, two or all three mornings. To register, call the department at 532-1310 by Feb. 15. The cost is $5 per morning per child.
Winter Sports Trailer: Weather permitting, the trailer will be located at Houlton Community Park on Tuesday, Feb. 20, Wednesday, Feb. 21; Thursday, Feb. 22: and Saturday, Feb. 24, from 1-3 p.m. The trailer will have cross country ski packages and snowshoes available for public use, free of charge. There are youth and adult sizes. Come spend some of your vacation at the with us.
Open Gym and Game Room Hours: From Saturday, Feb.17 through Sunday, Feb. 25, the gym and game room will be open from 1-4 p.m. Youth must be in grades 2-12 to attend. Those who are younger must be accompanied by a parent.
Millar Civic Center Public Skate Hours: Friday, Feb. 16, from 6-8 p.m. ; Saturday, Feb. 17, from 2-4 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 18 from 2-4 p.m.; Monday, Feb. 19, from 1-3 p.m.; Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 1-3 p.m.; Wednesday, Feb. 21, from 1-3 p.m.; Thursday, Feb. 22, from 1-3 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 23, from 1-3 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 24, from 2-4 p.m.; and Sunday, Feb. 25, from 2-4 p.m. Admission is $3.50 for youth; $4 for adults; $2 for skate rentals.
