FORT KENT, Maine — After a spate of mild winter weather which many Valley residents welcomed as a reprieve from having to shovel their driveways, Thursday morning brought light snowfall and a return to slippery roads.

Folks won’t need to break out their shovels just yet, but with Friday being Groundhog Day, people living in northern Maine can expect the sensient critter to make a rapid dive back into his hole.

The National Weather Service in Caribou is reporting a chance of snow showers after 9 p.m. Thursday and wind chill values as low as -31 on Friday night.
