New Ventures offers free career courses

HOULTON, Maine — On Wednesday, Feb. 14, New Ventures Maine will offer three free classes: Starting a Child Care Business, Budgeting Basics/Clean Up Your Credit, and Tax Readiness for the Self-Employed.

Starting a Child Care Business will offer information to help participants decide whether self-employment in the child care field is a good choice for them and about available resources to get started. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Regional Fedcap Office, 2 Market Square, Houlton.

Budgeting Basics/Clean Up your Credit will help people gain the skills and confidence to establish a budget, pay bills, reduce debt, find money for savings, and set personal financial goals. This class will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. in Room 107 at the Houlton Higher Education Center, 18 Military St., Houlton.

Tax Readiness for the Self-Employed will help participants organize financial records, understand their tax responsibilities, become familiar with various tax forms, and file taxes. The class will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. in Room 107 at the Houlton Higher Education Center.
