LIMESTONE, Maine — The Town of Limestone is still seeking a new public works director after former highway foreman William Thibodeau’s Jan. 7 resignation.
Other town employees and crews from surrounding communities have since helped the short-staffed road crew handle the snow, and Limestone Water and Sewer District Superintendent Jim Leighton has stepped up as the interim highway foreman. During this time, one of the road crew’s two plows unexpectedly caught fire, but fortunately staffers were able to fix a backup plow given to the town by the state of Maine.
The hiring of a new foreman was discussed during the second of two executive sessions members of the Select Board held on Feb. 7.
The board members initially did not make any comments about the matter, and motioned to adjourn the regular meeting when coming out of executive session at 9:04 p.m..
One member of the audience, however, asked if the board could elaborate on what was discussed, saying that he “thought you had to end any executive sessions with a statement of some sort.”
Limestone Police Chief and Interim Town Manager Stacey Mahan then said he planned to make some calls before leaving the town office that night and hoped to interview potential candidates for the poston, “hopefully this Friday.”
