Blaine Pray, a resident of Crystal, is at home after spending a week as a patient at Houlton Regional Hospital following an emergency operation about 10 days ago.
He is coming along very nicely, according to sister Bertha, who is now learning to be a very good caretaker, and I am sure that Blaine will soon be back to work.
There is still not much going on here in our small town. The main drag still looks quite deserted and there is still lots of snow around, after the last snowfall left us with at least 5 more inches of the white stuff.
I have asked Kent Willigar to bring over his backhoe and clear away some of the snow that is clogging up my front yard, and also some of the snow that has been piled up near the barn.
I have lots of deer appearing now and want to make sure there is room for them to arrive and eat the bread and cut-up apples I put out for them.
My neighbor, Roger Webb, has acquired a black lab puppy who is now about 2 months old. He brought the puppy over for a visit the other day. When he gets his full growth he will be a big dog, and will sure lose that puppy look.
My bird population seems to have gotten larger as my feeder is usually empty when morning comes. The birds flock around it in vain and wait patiently until Roger fills my tube feeder yet again. Still no sign of a cardinal and the big birds are not showing up — like woodpeckers and blue jays. I have lots of finch, juncos, chickadees, nuthatches and swallows, and they are sure busy eating all the seeds.
My back snow field is full of deer trails where the deer come and go. They still like taking naps near the woods, especially when the sun is out, but I haven’t seen them napping lately.
