PRESQUE ISLE — A fire destroyed a tractor and damaged the building it was stored in on the Houlton Road Saturday morning.
The Presque Isle Fire Department were notified around 10:50 a.m. May 14 by a passerby of smoke coming from a structure at the Aroostook State Farm.
“We responded to a machine shop fire at 59 Houlton Road. Upon arrival, we had flames shooting out through the roof of the shop,” said Deputy Chief Adam Rider, PIFD.
Through the quick actions of firefighters, the fire was brought under control within three minutes of arriving at the scene. The cause remains under investigation by the Fire Marshall’s Office but it does not appear to be suspicious, according to Rider.
Rider said the fire started in a tractor parked inside the structure and spread to part of the shop before it was extinguished.
Mutual aid was provided by the Mapleton and Easton fire departments. No injuries were reported. Rider said no one was inside the building at the time of the fire.
