A PERHAM MACHINE SHOP on the Tangle Ridge Road and owned by Mark Malnichuck was destroyed by fire May 10. Darren Woods — wearing gear from the North Lakes Fire Department, for which he is chief — a member of the Caribou Fire Department, works with Caribou firefighters as they assist the Washburn Fire Department in extinguishing the blaze.
“Washburn Fire and Rescue responded to a structure fire on the Tangle Ridge Road in Perham around 1:10 p.m. on May 10. Crews arrived to find a machine shop owned by Mark Malnichuck, Perham Machine, fully involved,” said Washburn Fire Chief Troy Heald.
Heald said it took crews approximately 30 minutes to contain the fire and get it under control.
“Other structures on the premises were spared from damage, including the shop owner’s residence,” said Heald. “The cause of the fire was related to the use of a wood stove in the shop.”
Heald indicated the property was not insured and the extent of damage was estimated between $50,000 and $75,000.
Also assisting at the scene were the Caribou and Mapleton fire departments, the Maine Forest Service and Maine Public Service.
